Christmas comes just once a year Mum gets stressed, her nerves all jerky Sister feeds her face with chocs Doggy chomps on stale mince pies Granddad starts to dance and rap Nan says Mum's too good for Dad Aunty Babs loves mistletoe The fighting starts. The yearly strife The neighbours bang upon the walls Aunty Babs pretends she's sad Daddy burps, falls on the floor Nana tuts, "I told you so." Mummy grabs my sis and me Dad keeps phoning all night long We go back home at ten that night But Christmas comes just once a year But that's the way it's always been We laugh – Mum, Dad and Sis and me "Life's not perfect," Daddy cheers At least we know on this one night
